BIR BILLING, THE PARAGLIDING CAPITAL OF INDIA.
BIR BILLING is actually names for two separate beautiful villages BIR & BILLING.. Bir is a village located in the west of Joginder Nagar Valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. Mostly referred as “Paragliding Capital of India”, Bir is also a noted centre for ecotourism, spiritual studies and meditation. Tour packages to other destinations of Himachal like, Shimla, Kullu – Manali, Dharamshala (Mcleodganj), Dalhousie, Chamba, Mandi etc are also available from Bir.
. Bir Billing provides adventure sports like Paragliding, Hand gliding, Hot air balloon, River crossing, Hiking, Trekking, White water rafting and Angling etc.
Billing is situated north of Bir on the way to the Thamsar Pass leading to Bir Bhangal. Billing is located at a distance of 14 km from Bir. Bir is mainly a Buddhist town and houses a monastery and a Tibetan handicraft center.
People/tourists enjoy trekking from Bir (2,000m) to Billing (2600m). The 14 km distance from Bir to Billing is a rock road and adventurous tough terrain.
With lush green meadows, scenic beauty, and high altitude Billing provides the best launching pad of paragliding. One can also do camping in tents but at Billing you will not find tea/snack stalls except in tourist season. It offers excellent world-class facility for paragliding and is one of the best gliding sites in the world. Every year, a pre-World-cup paragliding event is organised at Billing. It also organised the very first Paragliding competition as per the rules of Federation Aeronautique International.
Bir is the landing ground for the Para gliders who take off from Billing.
