61-st All India Police Duty Meet postponed due to political unrest in TN
The 61st All India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM) for the year 2017, which was scheduled to be held from January 8, 2018, has been postponed to March. Tamil Nadu, which has so far hosted AIPDM for the years 1954, 1974, 1991, 2000 and 2006, will be hosting the event for the 6th time in the city in March.
The central organising committee on behalf of the Central Coordinating Committee of the All India Police Sports Control Board, has been arranging the AIPDM since its inception in 1953.
The state police cited the uncertainty in Tamil Nadu due to the political situation in the state for the postponement. The government, which was pulled up by the Madras high court for failing to conduct local body elections across the state in October 2016, is working on completing elections at its earliest. As police personnel will be busy with other duties, the meet has been postponed, a senior police officer said.
The state police has to provide accommodation and other benefits to the police personnel coming from across the country to participate in events including scientific aids to investigation, police photography, computer awareness, videography and anti-sabotage check. A team of police personnel from across the state have been trained to appear for the AIPDM events.
